TIRUPUR: The newly-announced Tirupur South Regional Transport Office is expected to become functional in two months as the Transport Department officials taking serious efforts to get an unused building belongs to the Animal Husbandry Department.
Highest revenue
Transport Minister K.N. Nehru had announced the bifurcation of Tirupur Regional Transport Office, which is one of the highest revenue earning centres of Tamil Nadu. The 7,500 sq ft building on Tirupur-Palladam Highway was identified as a suitable location to set up the office by the authorities. Nearly 35,000 sq ft area lies vacant adjacent to the building in the campus.
According to sources, 67 villages will fall under the jurisdiction of the newly-created Tirupur South RTO while 33 villages, including Tirupur town, will be covered by the Tirupur North RTO.
Areas including Palladam, Pongalur, Sulur, Paappampatty, Paruvai, Kalangal, Kethanur, Mangalam, Jallipatty, Kangeyampalayam, Kallapalayam, Selakkarachal, Idayarpalayam, Elavanthi, Mathapur, Iduvai, Veerapandi, Ugayanur, Peruntholuvu will come under Tirupur South RTO.
Close proximity
A personal assistant to the Regional Transport Officer has been posted to carry out the preliminary works. The Government has sanctioned 22 posts, including Regional Transport Officer, two Motor Vehicle Inspectors and two superintendents for the new office.
M. Jagadeesan, Regional Transport Officer in-charge, Tirupur, says that the higher officials have been taking efforts to let out the building on rental fixed by the Public Works Department.
Computerised service
He pointed out that the locality would be more convenient to the public as it fall on Tirupur-Palladam Highway at Veerapandi, on the southern part of Tirupur.
The fully computerised office will ensure better service to the public without any delay as it will have adequate staff.
