Legal Metrology officials raid slimming centres

HYDERABAD: Next time you visit a slimming centre make sure the weighing machine used there is a certified one as you may be taken for a ride.

The Legal Metrology Department raided various slimming centres, including La Belle, Anoo’s, VLCC and many others and registered cases for using unverified and uncertified weighing machines.

The unverified weighing machines used in these slimming centres showed an error of up to 6 kg and some centres charged Rs. 5,000 for reduction of initial body weight up to 5 kg, said Tejdeep Kaur Menon, Legal Metrology Department Controller, in a press release.

Four cases were booked against La Belle’s Banjara Hills, Marredpally, Basheerbagh and Kukatpally branches for using unverified weighing machines and tape measures.

Similarly, five cases were booked against Anoo’s, seven against VLCC, one each against Vibes, Tangerin (Visakhapatnam), Talwalkars (Vijayawada) and Angels (Vijayawada), she said.

Selling lotions

Further, these centres were selling certain lotions, herbal powders etc in packaged form without giving proper declarations and altering the maximum retail price on the packages, which is a violation under the Standards of Weights and Measures Packaged Commodities Rules, added the release.
