NEW DELHI: Ronjan Sodhi’s aspirations of winning an Olympic quota place took a beating as he finished 19th with a 137 out of 150 in double trap in the World shotgun championship at Nicosia, Cyprus, on Monday. A below par 43 out of 50 in the second round possibly cost a place in the final for Ronjan, who had shot 47 in his first and third rounds. However, the scores were so high that even a total of 140 did not find a place in the six-member final. The Olympic quota went to S. Scott of Great Britain, who shot a 141 (45, 48 and 48). Among the other five finalists, World champion Daniele Di Spigno of Italy was streets ahead with a breathtaking 145 out of 150 while three others were at 143 and one at 142. The former World championship bronze medallist, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, was not at his best and finished 27th at 136 (46, 47 and 43). The third Indian shooter, Vikram Chopra was 50th in a field of 69 shooters with a 130 (46, 45 and 39). Among the juniors, Mohammed Asab was pretty good with a 131 that put him in the fifth place. He had a series of 44, 41 and 46. A. Noria was seventh with a 130 while S. Dahiya was 24th among 26 with a 112.
