Inspired by India: A visitor looks at the art works displayed.
PUDUCHERRY: This artist asks visitors to look at his work in silence, to feel the different levels in each photograph. An exhibition of photos, acrylic paintings on canvas and paintings on paper by Helgard Zurmuhl from Germany are on show at Gallery Square Circle, Auroville. The 19 photographs, edited to give them an out-of-the-world feel, tease the viewer’s senses. “It is like an inner game using our perceptions, our awareness. Observe the pictures and see as to which level of the interpenetrated photos you identify first,” she says. The painting exhibition, titled ‘Indian Influence’ has been inspired by the oriental land that is India. Thirty-eight paintings made by her students in and around Auroville have also been put on show. “Since November 2006 I have been giving people the possibility of expressing themselves through art.” Helgard’s main focus is on the human being, and on finding ways to express it in body language, spirit and mind.
