CRACKDOWN: Police personnel inspecting a Kerala-bound lorry carrying rectified spirit concealed in a secret chamber in Krishnagiri on Tuesday.
Krishnagiri: Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) personnel seized 525 litres of rectified spirit worth Rs.1 lakh, which was being smuggled in a lorry at Bynapalli near here on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off a team led by PEW Inspector Sankar were conducting vehicle checks near the toll date when they intercepted a lorry proceeding from Karnataka. A thorough examination of the lorry by the police revealed 18 cans of rectified spirit consisting of 35 litres each concealed in a secret chamber in the vehicle. Ashraf (37), lorry driver was arrested in this connection.
The vehicle was going to Kerala. The PEW police have registered a case. Further investigation is on.
