THENI: A nine-year-old schoolgirl was found murdered under mysterious circumstances at T. Moonandipatti near Thevaram on Tuesday.
The police said that they recovered the body behind a plastic water tank and later identified that the deceased was Navaneedha Priya (9), daughter of Murugan, driver in a private engineering college in Salem district.
The face was crushed and there were injuries on the back of the neck. Gold ear-rings and silver anklets, she was wearing, were missing.
A sniffer dog was pressed into service. Superintendent of Police R. Sudhahar and Deputy Superintendent of Police Nachimuthu and Revenue Divisional Officer Siddhar Mahalingam conducted an enquiry among villagers.
The police had secured a woman at this village in this connection. The girl’s parents had informed the police that her daughter did not return home from the school in Thevaram on Monday evening. They were told by the police to check with their relatives and friends and come the next day for registering a case. We searched throughout the night, they said.
