ARUPPUKOTTAI: All roads in the Aruppukottai Assembly constituency would be repaired / re-laid at a cost of Rs. 12 crore, the Minister for School Education, Thangam Thennarasu, has said.
Giving away free colour television sets to the residents of Kalloorani near here on Tuesday, Mr. Thennarasu said that he had taken up the issue of poor condition of roads in the constituency with the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi. Following which, the Highways Department had floated tenders for works, including to repair the Narikudi-Parthibanur road.
Mr. Thennarasu said Tamil Nadu was the only State to provide free colour television sets and added that all those who were having ration cards would be given TV sets.
The Chief Minister had been implementing all the poll promises, the Minister said. The Government was implementing the ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam’ and providing basic amenities at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh to each panchayat to make the villages self-sufficient.
Free land scheme
The Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that the district administration was determined to implement the Chief Minister’s pet projects, including distribution of free house site ‘pattas.’ In the event of non-availability of land for free distribution, the Government was ready to buy private lands to give away to the landless,” he said.
