PUDUCHERRY: Several teachers’ organisations in the Union Territory on Tuesday welcomed the Government’s decision to concede their longstanding demand for assured career progression (ACP) scheme with retrospective effect from 1999. The Teachers’ Association, Graduate Teachers’ Association and the Tamil Language Teachers’ Association of Puducherry, in a joint statement, said the Government had issued the G.O. on Tuesday. Their functionaries, led by its convener of the Joint Action Council C.H. Balamohanan, called on Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and thanked him. They also expressed gratitude to Education Minister M. O. H. F. Shajahan, Leader of the Opposition A. M. H. Nazeem and trade unions for supporting their cause. — Special Correspondent
