Exhibition at ANERT office from today Stoves from three States to be on display
Thiruvananthapuram: A national workshop and exhibition of new and energy-efficient models of firewood stoves and those using biofuels will be held from Wednesday to Friday at the office of the Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) at Kesavadasapuram here. Firewood continues to be the most poplar cooking fuel in the State. Apart from firewood, various forms of biofuels are used by hotels, small-scale industries and Ayurveda medicine manufacturing units. Dependable source
Even though the shortage of firewood and its spiralling price are some of the problems affecting the conventional energy sector, when compared to fast depleting petroleum-based fuels such as kerosene or LPG, firewood is still one of the dependable sources of cooking fuel. But ordinary firewood stoves are not energy-efficient and a lot of firewood goes waste. Stoves that use less quantity of firewood and create less pollution are now available. The workshop and exhibition will feature new models of stoves from Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It is being organised as part of the Union Government’s Rajiv Gandhi Akshaya Urja Diwas celebrations to popularise energy conservation and encourage the use of new and renewable energy sources. Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty will inaugurate the workshop on Wednesday. Minister for Electricity A.K. Balan will inaugurate the exhibition at 1 p.m. on the same day.
