BHOPAL: A family feud led to a gory incident on Monday night in which ten members of a dalit family were set on fire by one of their own relatives at Maheshwar village in Raisen district near Bhopal. One of the victims, Sumitra, succumbed to her injuries in the burns ward of Kamla Nehru Hospital here on Tuesday morning. According to available information, one Kanchedi Ram in a fit of rage allegedly tried to kill his brother Dhani Ram’s entire family along with his wife’s brother and sisters by dousing petrol and setting them on fire late on Monday night. In the struggle that ensued, even the accused was badly burnt. Eight of the ten injured in the incident were rushed to the burns ward of the main referral hospital here on Monday night for treatment. Fifty-five-year-old Dhani Ram, his wife Savitri, two daughters, Sandhya (8) and Sadhna (4), brother-in-law Mangal Singh, sisters-in-law Jayanti, and Sangeeta have burn injuries. Three of them are said to be in a critical condition. Dhani Ram was living with his family at his wife’s paternal home. Earlier on Monday Kanchedi Ram had a bitter argument with his brother and his wife. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced a relief of Rs. 50,000 for the deceased and Rs. 10,000 each for the injured.
