Benefits of organic farming

Special Correspondent

DODDABALLAPUR: Karnalu, a small village in Doddaballapur taluk has gone organic as all farmers of this village have shunned the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Instead, they have taken up vermi compost to support their organic venture under the Bio-Resources Project.

They have even formed an organic growers’ association to strengthen their endeavour.

Going organic would straight away save the village about Rs. 13 lakh a year which was hitherto being spent on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

The Bio-Resources Project authorities are making enquiries to export the organic ragi being grown here, to Japan as it is likely to fetch high prices.
