KOLAR: If the Vidurashwath incident epitomised undivided Kolar district’s contribution to the freedom struggle, now the district has registered an equally inspiring people’s movement to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first war of Independence and the birth centenary of Bhagat Singh. Several organisations in Kolar district are observing the occasion in a special way. Three Leftist outfits —Students Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) a.k.a. JMS—have joined together to pay glowing tributes to the independence movement. According to G.V. Sriram Reddy, convenor of the Deshapremi Janotsav observation committee and CPI(M) MLA, the three major achievements of the freedom struggle are under threat, namely oneness among Indians, feeling of anti-colonolism and unity between people . It is the duty of every citizen to contribute his share in countering communalism and terrorism of every hue.
