BHUBANESWAR: The murder of a woman and her grandson created a sensation in the city on Tuesday. The accused person surrendered to the police late on Monday night and reportedly confessed to the crime. The scene at the government quarter in Orissa University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) was horrifying with the bodies of Heena Pani, 78, and her grandson Debabrata Pani, 22, lying in a pool of blood. The duo was first attacked by a sharp weapon and then hit by a large piece of stone used for preparing spices, Khurda Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Mohanty said. The accused person Arun Kumar Dora told the police that he was fed-up with Debabrata as he allegedly put pressure on him to indulge in unnatural sex. “I first killed Debabrata and later his grandmother to wipe out the witness,” the police quoted Dora as having said. Hailing from Parjang area under Dhenkanal district, Debabrata’s father Kunja Behari Pani was working with the OUAT. However, the police had doubts over Dora’s confession. “It is difficult to believe that a person could commit two murders on such a pretext. Dora could have denied the invitation of Debabrata,” Mr. Mohanty said.
