Kumaraswamy to accord priority to housing

Staff Correspondent

Construction of 25,000 houses in Bellary city to be undertaken soon

No rules violated while allotting sites: Kumaraswamy

They have been given to Group D employees

POTHALAKATTA (BELLARY District): Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who appeared to be irked over oft-repeated questions on the transfer of power expressed “confusion” over the issue.

He was responding to questions by presspersons here on Tuesday after spending Monday night at the village as part of his “Grama Vastavya” programme.

‘Confusion’

“I have clarified that the transfer of power would take place as scheduled on October 3. Yet, I am at a loss to understand why doubts are continuously being raised over the veracity of the statement, ” he said.

“Wait till October 3, and everything will become clear,” he reiterated. Mr. Kumaraswamy felt that the election code of conduct would not come in the way of his continuing with his programme of staying at villages.

Invitations

He said he had been receiving invitations from people

for his “village stays”, and added that he would respond to them favourably.

He disagreed that results of the ensuing elections to the urban civic bodies would serve as a referendum on the performance of the coalition Government.

With regard to the construction of 25,000 houses in Bellary city as announced by him at a public meeting here recently, he said he had convened a meeting of officials on Thursday to chalk out an action plan for the purpose, and would instruct them to take up the work soon.

Housing would be accorded top priority and adequate funds allocated to it, he added.

Mr. Kumaraswamy refuted charges that he had violated rules while allotting BDA sites through his discretionary quota.

“I have not given sites to my relatives.

I have only been following the practice adopted by earlier Chief Ministers by allotting sites to Group D employees, he clarified.

New districts

Regarding the demand for carving out new districts and taluks, he said the Cabinet had decided to form a committee to look into the proposals.

Proposal

Mr. Kumaraswamy said the proposal for filling up of the Malvi Dam in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk would be considered.

Kudligi MLA Anil Lad and Gulagi Nagaraj, president of the district unit were present.
