President, PM greet people

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have greeted the people on the occasion of Janmashtami.

In her message, the President said the festival signified the triumph of virtue and righteousness. “Lord Krishna has preached duty without thought of reward. May this festival inspire all of us to follow the path of virtue and righteousness in thought, word and deed,” she said.

The Vice President said the festival “reminds us of the birth, simplicity and heroic deeds of the young Lord Krishna, who is immortalised in our popular consciousness. We must derive inspiration from the life and teachings of Lord Krishna.” While reminding the people of Lord Krishna’s teachings, the Prime Minister said he gave the message of performing one’s duty without expecting any reward.
