Support price sought for sugarcane

BANGALORE: The State Sugarcane Growers Association on Tuesday urged Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to announce a support price for sugarcane grown in the State.

Association president Karbur Shantha Kumar told presspersons here on Tuesday that a delegation of sugarcane growers would soon meet the Minister to present their demand.

He said growers were concerned over the delay by sugar factorings in crushing sugarcane, particularly in south Karnataka, and urged the Government to direct the factories to begin crushing immediately. — Staff Reporter
