Digvijay’s remark on second SRC irks TRS

‘Second SRC might be constituted before the 2009 elections’

‘Congress warned not to play hide and seek games’

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has expressed its deep resentment over the reported statement of AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on the second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) to look into demand for new States,

TRS leaders and president of the party’s breakaway faction A. Narendra have demanded the Congress party clarify its stand on Telangana.

Mr. Singh had said in New Delhi that the Congress party had made a promise on the eve of the 2004 elections to constitute Second SRC. “Solution to Telangana issue does not come under the purview of the Congress party’s promise,” he said, and remarked that second SRC might be constituted before the 2009 elections.

TRS legislature party leader G. Vijayarama Rao warned the Congress not to ‘play hide and seek games’.

“Such remarks will spell the death knell for them and it cannot dream of retaining power in 2009 elections,” Dr. Rao told reporters here on Tuesday.

He wanted AICC president Sonia Gandhi to take cognisance of Mr. Singh’s remarks and clarify on the demand for Telangana.

The Congress leaders hailing from Telangana should raise their voice against such remarks, he said.

At another press conference, Mr. Narendra faulted the dilly-dallying tactics of the Congress on Telangana. He said his party and 45 other organisations would hold a public meeting on September 17 at the Arts College here in support of its demand for a separate State.
