Basking in glory: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy unveiling a pylon to mark the launching of works for Udayasamudram Lift Irrigation Project in Nalgonda district on Tuesday. Also seen is Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy.
BRAHMANA VELLEMLA (NALGONDA DT): Union Minister S.Jaipal Reddy has suggested Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy to “focus on some irrigation projects” since all the projects cannot be completed simultaneously in the State. Sharing the dais with the Chief Minister, who launched works for the Rs.700-crore Udayasamudram Lift Irrigation project here on Tuesday, the Mr Jaipal Reddy said: “Concentrate on some projects on priority basis and spend more money on them to get maximum result.” The Union Minister further asked the Chief Minister to allocate another Rs.120 crore to permanently get rid of the fluorosis problem in Nalgonda district. YSR’s claim
Later in his address, the Chief Minister claimed that his Government had taken up irrigation projects in an “unprecedented way” in Nalgonda district. He maintained that eight lakh acres would be irrigated by spending Rs.5,000 crore in the district. He also announced that water would be released into the Sri Ram Sagar Project-II project next year and works would be speeded up to complete the remaining projects as early as possible. Dr.Reddy said that the Government had taken up the Udayasamudram Lift Scheme against all odds. “Though technically it is difficult to take up the project, we are making it possible due to the pressure exerted by your MLA (Komatireddy Venkat Reddy) on me,” he said. The Congress mobilised a good number of cadres to make the public meeting held in Brahmana Vellemla, the native place of the MLA, a grand success. The Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that the Congress Government had taken “revolutionary steps” on the irrigation front to make agriculture profitable. Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation for the Nalgonda University at Anneparthy between Narketpally and Nalgonda. “Our Government is committed to provide employment opportunities to youngsters besides imparting them quality education,” he said. The Chief Minister asked the IT Minister, R.Damodar Reddy, to speed up the process to establish the IT park in Nalgonda district as promised by him during his last visit. The Higher Education Minister D.Srinivas said that the Congress Government had opened four universities, two in the Telangana region, to impart quality education to students.
