UDUMALPET: A head constable attached to the Gudimangalam police station was stabbed by a three-member gang while intercepting their moped at a check-post on Tuesday.

According to police, sub-inspector Sangeetha and the head constable Palanisamy (45) intercepted a moped, which was carrying three persons at Gudimangalam junction. But the trio managed to evade the police and fled away. However, the police team chased them and intercepted the gang in a couple of minutes. Another constable Muniappan also joined them.

The melee between the police team and the trio entered into attacking each other. The gang fled away as a person of the gang stabbed Palanisamy’s stomach.

He was later admitted to a hospital with minor injury, the police said.

Deputy Inspector of General of Police, Coimbatore range, M.N. Manjunatha inspected the site. Coimbatore Superintendent of Police G. Karthikeyan said that they have formed four special teams to nab the trio.
