Be on the guard: RPF police personnel distributing pamphlets to passengers at Dindigul railway station on Tuesday to create awareness on safe journey.
DINDIGUL: On the premise that awareness of safety only will ensure a safe and hassle-free journey, a team of Railway Protection Force personnel led by Inspector S. Ramesh undertook a campaign at Dindigul railway station on Tuesday. The team distributed pamphlets containing dos and don’ts during travel to passengers travelling in Guruvayur Express and other trains. It will be a continuous process. Cooperation of passengers in this connection is very essential, according to Mr. Ramesh. “We cautioned the passengers to be extra vigilant and reminded them about problems faced by other passengers earlier. If they failed to notice or were unaware of possible problems, they would land in trouble. Moreover, awareness information should be passed on to new and regular train passengers continuously. First, we wanted to alert passengers not to touch or lift any unknown or unclaimed parcels, baggage or suitcases left in trains and on platforms. They should immediately inform railway employees or the RPF personnel for immediate action. Besides, passengers should not allow unknown persons to look after their luggage and also not to agree to look after baggage left by unknown persons. Do not accept any eatables, soft drinks or ‘prasadams’ offered by unidentified persons during travel as it might contain poisonous materials. The campaigners advised passengers not to travel on footboards. “Footboard travel may make you disabled or kill you” was the final caution from the RPF. Protect your jewels when you sit near windows, was another warning to women. Emergency phone nos.
In case of emergency, passengers may dial the RPF control room in Madurai: 0452–230 8802 or Dindigul RPF office no.0451-2471500 or Railway Police, Dindigul: 0451-2422023.
