If you have items that you will never use or do not know how to discard things that you have collected over the years and don’t have the heart to throw away here is someone who will gladly take it from you.
It could be anything, even your vehicle. And, in the bargain, you can ensure that what you discarded will help treat a cancer victim.
Vasantha Memorial Trust, which works with cancer patients in the city, will conduct a jumble sale on September 23. Proceeds from the sale will go to the aid of poor cancer patients.
This is the eighth year that the jumble sale is being held, J. Ramanathan, managing trustee, said.
Last year Vasantha Memorial Trust received 16 truck loads of items, including a car.
The sale helped raise Rs. 5.14 lakh, which was spent on poor and needy cancer patients.
The trust, which has been crusading against cancer since 1993, has so far sponsored 265 cancer patients. Nearly half of them were children with blood cancers. The good news is that many of them have been cured of the disease and are now well, he said.
The trust welcomes donation of domestic appliances, furniture, toys, gifts, vessels, and electrical and electronic goods.
Donations of clothes, footwear, cassettes, toiletries and food items are not entertained.
The things to be donated may be deposited with the trust offices on or before Sunday.
