VS to inaugurate water supply scheme

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the HUDCO-funded water supply scheme in Kochi in October. This was decided at a high-level meeting attended by Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran; Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammedkutty; and Fisheries Minister S. Sarma here on Tuesday.

The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) would undertake the restoration and surfacing of road between Kaloor and Kadavantra dug by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) for laying the pipelines. The KWA would have to meet 50 per cent of the cost. The City Corporation would take care of rebuilding of K.P. Vallon Road. The meeting set up an official committee for settling the dispute between the GCDA and the KWA regarding transfer of land.

The Rs.136-crore scheme is aimed at supplying water to the Vypeen Islands, Ernakulam City and West Kochi.
