Steely REVAMP: V. Carmelus, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, flagging off a revamped Nilgiri Mountain Railway coach at the Goldenrock Workshop in Tiruchi on Tuesday.
TIRUCHI: The first rake of four revamped coaches of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) was flagged off on Tuesday by V. Carmelus, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, at the Goldenrock Workshop here, where the coaches were reconditioned.
The workshop had dismantled the wooden body of the coaches and rebuilt it with steel on the existing under-frame, besides making various improvements. The Railway Board has sanctioned funds for revamp of the first batch of 10 coaches.
Mr. Carmelus said feedback on the modifications would be obtained from the passengers to make further improvements to the other six coaches. The body work of the six coaches had already begun.
