Action sought against officials

Special Correspondent

Crucial information withheld: CPI

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Communist Party of India (CPI) is understood to have asked Forest Minister Benoy Viswam to initiate action against officials of his department who had withheld crucial information relating to the attempted sale of a portion of the Merchiston Estate to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from him.

Land deal

The CPI Parliamentary Party, which met here late Monday evening, also felt that the deal must not be allowed to go through if the land sought to be sold to ISRO was forest land.

The Forest Minister earlier explained all that had transpired in connection with the controversial land deal.

The party MLAs were of the view that some crucial information relating to the status of the land and its de-notification had not reached the Minister at the appropriate time.

This was a major failure and should be looked into very seriously, the MLAs said.
