KINGSTON (JAMAICA): Jamaica’s main Opposition won a close election victory on Monday, according to preliminary results, but Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said the race was still too close to call and the ruling party was not ready to concede defeat. The opposition Jamaica Labour Party won 31 of the 60 seats in the House of Representatives, enough to oust Jamaica’s first woman Prime Minister and end her party’s nearly 20-year hold on power in the Caribbean country. The Director of Elections said it would take about two days to complete the final count. But Ms Miller said there were a number of races that were close enough to switch in a recount. Ms. Miller alleged that some candidates campaigned beyond the deadline and that some members of her party were prevented from voting. — AP
