TASHKENT: India’s Karan Rastogi opened his campaign with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over Sarvar Ikramov of Uzbekistan in the $100,000 Asian tennis championship here on Tuesday. Aditya Madkekar also made the second round, cruising past unranked Dovran Chagylov of Turkmenistan 6-1, 6-0. Qualifiers Vivek Shokeen and Ashutosh Singh failed to cross the first round. Vivek lost tamely to wild card Rifat Biktyakov while Ashutosh found it hard against second-seeded Kyu-Tae Im of Korea in the second set. In the women’s section, Tara Iyer, seeded sixth, sailed past unranked Bermet Duvanaeva of Kyrgyzstan into the second round for the loss of two games. In doubles, Rushmi Chakravarthi and Tara scored a creditable victory over Bermet Duvanaeva of Kyrgyzstan and Olga Ippolitova of Kazakhstan in two tie-breaks.
