SIT footballers win Anna University Zone IX title

Virudhunagar: Host Sethu Institue of Technology prevailed over Shanmughnathan College of Engineering, Pudukottai 5-3 via the tie-breaker to win title in the Anna University Zone IX inter-engineering college football tournament at Kariapatti on Monday. At the regulation time the teams had shared two goals.

Prabakaran scored for SIT and Selvam scored for Shanmughnathan College. In the tie-breaker Prabakaran, Prabakar, Ravichandran and Ravi scored for SIT. Selvam and Muthukumar scored for Shanmughnathan College.

In the zone X final at Charan Maghadevi near Ambasamuthiram, Dr. Sivandi Aditanar College Tiruchendur beat Francis Xavier Engineering College 2-1 via tie-breaker, after the teams were locked goalless at the regulation time.

In the tie-breaker Muthukumaran and Raju scored for Sivandi Aditanar while Suresh scored for FX college

Other results: Third place match: Zone IX: Thiagarajar College of Engineering bt Vikram College of Engineering 3-0. Zone X: National EC Kovilpatti bt Government EC Tirunelveli 1-0.

Semifinals: Zone IX: SIT bt TCE 4-0; Shanmughnathan bt Vikram 3-0. Zone X: Dr. Sivandi Aditanar bt National EC 3-2; Francis Xavier EC bt Government ECE 2-0.
Virudhunagar triumphs

VHNSN College Virudhunagar won the team title in the Madurai Kamraj University championship tennis tournament defeating Ayyanadar Jankiammal College, Sivakasi 3-1 at the university ground in Madurai on Sunday.

The results: Final: VHNSN college bt ANJA College 3-1 (R. Rajeshkumar bt Nagarajan 6-2, 6-1; Raghuraman lost to Sankaralingam 0-6, 1-6; Rajeshkumar & Aravind bt Sankarlingam & Nagarajan 6-4, 6-3; Rajeshkumar bt Sankaralingam 4- 6, 6-0, 6-0)

Semifinals: ANJAC college bt Madura College 3-0, VHNSN college bt MKU P.G Dept 3-0.
SHASC men reign

Syed Hameedha Arts and Science College (SHASC), Kilakarai won the men’s team title while Alagappa University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi won the women’s title in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate badminton tournament, organised by TBAK College, at SS Stadium, Ramanathapuram recently.

The results: Men: Final: SHASC bt AUCPE 2-0 (M. Saravanakumar bt Anwar 21-17, 21-10; M. Saravankumar & K. Senthilraja bt Anwar & Sridhar Subramanyam 21-17, 11-21, 21-15). Semifinals: SHASC bt APSA College, Thiruppathur 2-0; AUCPE bt Dr. Zah ir Hussain College, Ilayangudi 2-0. Women: Finals: AUCPE bt Govt College for Women, Sivagangai 2-0 (S. Revathi bt M. Narrow win for Loyola

Loyola College edged out SRM University 54-53 in a league encounter of the State-level basketball tournament for the Krishnasamy Naidu Memorial Rolling Trophy, conducted by the Jamal Mohammed College, in Tiruchi on Tuesday.

The results: League: Loyola 54 (Babu 17, Vignesh Kumar 10) bt SRM 53 (Jimmy Abraham 15, Deepak 11); Sathyabama 63 (Augustin 17, Antony Wilson 14) bt SIT 33 (Saravanan 15, Madan 12). Prabhu scalps five

Prabhu scalped five wickets as TUK Arts College defeated Indian City Gold CC by six wickets and entered the quarterfinal of the Indian Air Force Platinum Jubilee cricket tournament in Thanjavur.

The scores: Indian City Gold CC 122 in 30.2 overs (Prabhu five for 10) lost to TUK Arts College 126 for four in 27.4 overs (Prabhu 41 not out).
Chess tournament
