India fails to progress

KOCHI: India comfortably defeated Kuwait 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 on Sunday but still failed to make the last-eight stage in the Asian senior volleyball championship in Jakarta.

India finished its Group ‘D’ engagements with two wins and one loss while Australia, with an all-win record, topped the pool and qualified for the second stage where the best eight fight for the honours.

India, which finished fourth at the last Asian championship two years ago, will now figure in the playoff matches for the ninth to 17th positions.
