NEW DELHI: Aarthie Ramaswamy drew with top seeded China’s Lufei Ruan on the opening day of the Asian women chess championship in Teheran on Monday. In another surprise, Amruta Mokal proved equal to seventh seeded Chinese Gu Xiaobing on a good day for the six-member Indian squad. National champion Tania Sachdev, seeded four, Eesha Karavade, Nisha Mohota and Swati Ghate won against lower rated rivals. The results (first round, involving Indians): Aarthie Ramaswamy drew with Lufei Ruan (Chn); Tania Sachdev bt Zhang Xiaowen (Chn); Eesha Karavade bt Wang Xiaohul (Chn); Amrutha Mokal drew with Gu Xiaobing (Chn); Nisha Mohota bt Mona Sal man Mahini (Iri); Hoang Thia Bao Tram (Vie) lost to Swati Ghate.
