Erode to get ‘comprehensive hospital’

R. Sundaram

Rs. 80-lakh project sent to Government

for sanction

Two more ayurvedic centres will be accommodated in comprehensive hospital

ERODE: Erode Municipality has decided to establish a comprehensive hospital in Erode town. The municipality has sent to the government a proposal for a Rs. 80-lakh project for sanction.

Outpatient centres

Municipal Commissioner K.R. Selvaraj told The Hindu on Thursday that at present the Erode Municipality had four maternity centres on Gandhiji Road, Karungalpalayam, Thirunagar Colony and Railway Station Road. There are three doctors in the maternity centres, but they don’t have qualified gynaecologists. Normal deliveries take place in the maternity centres. Cases involving Caesarean operations are referred to the Government Hospital. Everyday more than 200 patients are treated in the maternity centres.

The municipal administration has now decided to upgrade the Gandhiji Road maternity centre into a “comprehensive hospital” with all facilities. Mr. Selvaraj said the maternity centres at Karungalpalayam, Thirunagar Colony and Railway Station Road would be converted into outpatients centres and pre- and post-natal treatment would be given there. There are two ayurvedic hospitals in Erode - one at Marappalam and the other at Karungalpalayam. Two more ayurvedic centres would be accommodated in the Gandhiji Road comprehensive hospital.

Drinking water

The Municipality has also decided to develop the Central Busstand at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore and to provide purified drinking water to passengers round-the-clock. An air-conditioned dormitory will be established for women passengers and children.
