Prioritise national interest in nuclear deal: IUML

MALAPPURAM: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty has described the anti-imperialist stand of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) (CPI-M) as specious and said his party wants national interest to be given priority while implementing the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal.

At a public meeting at Aravankara, near here, on Tuesday, Mr. Kunhalikutty said Indian Muslims had a legacy of fighting against colonialists and imperialists. He said they would find the CPI(M)’s anti-imperialist moves specious.

He said the CPI(M) should come forward to redress the backwardness of Muslims as stated in the Sachar Commission Report.

IUML leader Kozhissery Kunhimohammed Musliar presided over the meeting. K. Mohammedunni Haji, MLA, inaugurated a reading room and library set up at the IUML office.

Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre president in Saudi Arabia K.P. Mohammed Kutty inaugurated a political school at Arvankara.

IUML leaders Mujeeb Pookkottur, Abdussamad Pookkottur, T.V. Ibrahim, Siddiqali Rangattur, P.A. Salam, A.M. Kunhan, K.P. Unnithu Haji, V.T. Alavikutty and Husain Karat addressed the gathering.

Convener of IUML reception committee Abdurahman Karat welcomed the gathering. Nottath Mohammedali proposed a vote of thanks.
