Two kidnap suspects detained by police
Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM: Two persons travelling in a blue Indica were detained by the police at Aswapuram late on Wednesday night. They were being brought to Khammam to ascertain whether they were the two who handed over Rohit to a college student, V. Ravinder, at Tekulapalli village.
According to police sources, one of them was identified as a former naxalite -- Bharat Venkanna from Bayaram mandal.
He was involved in an extortion case. Both the suspects would be taken to the residents of Tekulapalli village on the way to Khammam as part of the identification process.
“We cannot say whether the two persons taken into custody at Aswapuram were really involved in the kidnapping,” said the Superintendent of Police D. S. Chouhan.
The police took up checking of vehicles on all the routes and the two persons were picked up as part of the exercise. Meanwhile, Rohit was brought to the district headquarters by the Tekulapalli Inspector Janardhan.
The boy was administered glucose as he appeared too weak to talk to people who gathered around him.
He was shifted to the Police Guesthouse at the behest of the Superintendent of Police. He will be handed over to his parents after they arrive in Khammam.
