MADURAI: Madurai Oil and Oilseeds Merchants’ Association has sought a clarification from the Commercial Taxes Department regarding the payment of Central Sales Tax (CST) in view of a recent amendment to the CST Act.
In a statement, the association president, C. Ilangkannan, said that certain products were given tax exemption — ‘Conditional exemption’ and ‘General exemption’— for commodities sold both within the State and outside. But these exemptions were scrapped through an amendment on March 26. However, the amendment has not been brought into force in the State. Only upon a clarification would the amendment take effect, he said.
