MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday stayed an order passed by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board on August 30 to close down a mineral separation plant owned by V.V. Minerals of Tirunelveli. Admitting a writ petition filed by the company’s managing partner, a Division Bench of Justices Prafulla Kumar Misra and P.R. Shivakumar granted an interim stay and adjourned the matter for further hearing to Friday. Electricity disconnected
The board had ordered disconnection of electricity supply and closure of the plant on charges of polluting the groundwater by discharging untreated trade effluents. But the petitioner refuted the charges and claimed that the closure order was passed without following the statutory provisions.
