CHENNAI: Gowjith Subash’s century helped City I fight back from a precarious position against City III on the opening day of the TNCA round robin Under-19 final here on Wednesday. Electing to bat, City I could made 194 but only after Gowjith’s innings and his 143-run fifth-wicket stand with R. Karthik (39). A student of Loyola College, Gowjith, who plays for MRF in the TNCA league hit a six and 14 boundaries in his 137-ball knock and it came when City I was reeling at 25 for four. At close, City III had made 71 for one in 24 overs. The scores: City I I94 in 63.4 overs (Gowjith Subash 100, R. Karthik 39, T.K. Dharma four for 38, N.D. Srikanth four for 27) v City III 71 for one in 24 (R. Prashanth batting 33).
