WHAT A MATCH!: Man-of-the-match Sachin Tendulkar scored a match-winning 94 off 81 balls, an innings that included 16 fours and one six, to take India to a famous victory against England in the sixth ODI at The Oval. India reached the target of 317 with two balls to spare and levelled the series .
CHENNAI: Led by Sachin Tendulkar’s magnificent 94 off 81 balls, India beat England by two wickets in the sixth ODI against England at The Oval on Wednesday. Rahul Dravid’s side overhauled the opposition’s total of 316 with two balls to spare. The series now stands level at 3-3; the decider will be played at Lord’s on Saturday. Tendulkar, cramping towards the end of his innings, was at his dominant best throughout. In all, he stroked sixteen boundaries and a huge six, straight through the line. He and Sourav Ganguly added 150; both openers were dismissed, however, within three overs of each other. The momentum seemed to swing, then, in England’s favour, with India needing 85 runs off the last 10 overs; but first Gautam Gambhir, then Mahendra Dhoni and finally Robin Uthappa kept India’s hopes alive. Uthappa, who replaced Dinesh Karthik in this match, earned several cheeky boundaries behind the wicket, as the ball repeatedly evaded the diving England wicketkeeper, Matt Prior. The Karnataka batsman finished the match unbeaten on 47 from 33 balls. Earlier, Owais Shah’s brilliant maiden ODI century (107, 95b, 11x4, 2x6) carried England past 300, from a precarious 83 for four. A.D. Mascarenhas smashed Yuvraj Singh for five consecutive sixes in the final over of the innings. Corrections and clarifications
