Glittering galA: Participants at the fashion show held as part of JIPMER’s cultural festival in Puducherry recently.
PUDUCHERRY: What is common to rhino-cerebral mucormycosis, emphysematous cholecystitis and malignant otitis externa? What is spina ventousa? What is JAMSHEDPUR fever? If you have the answers to such questions, then the Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) will be the place where you must head this Sunday. The institute is conducting the All India Inter-collegiate MediQuiz 2007 on September 9 on the institute premises. According to JIPMER Students Association president L G Saptarishi, the preliminary round would be held between 9 a.m. and 9.45 a.m. Twelve teams (each team consisting of 3 persons) would be chosen for the semi-finals and 6 teams each would be quizzed in two semi-finals. The winning team will be given the title All India Inter Collegiate MediQuiz Champions 2007 and would get a cash prize of Rs 3,000 each. They would also be given a Littman stethoscope each and books worth Rs 1,000. The second prize is Rs. 2,000 in cash per person, gifts and books. Registration is Rs. 50 a person. The mediquiz comes close on the heels of JIPMER’s annual cultural, literary and sporting event, Spandan. The cultural trophy at Spandan went to Christ College, Bangalore and they fought with other teams in events including Indian and western music, dance, fashion show, skit, miming, ad zap, antakshari, clay modeling and face painting. The literary and debating trophy went to JIPMER and the team participated in about 15 events such as Whats The Good Word, 90 seconds, Pictionary, Dumb charades and Quiz. Fashion show
In the fashion show, the first prize was bagged by M. S. Ramayya Institute of Technology, the second prize went to Loyola College and the third prize went to Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute. The first prize in the theme choreography event went to PESIT from Bangalore, and the second and third prizes to Christ College, Bangalore. In the non-theme choreography event, the first place went to Loyola College, the second to Thanjavur Medical College and a special prize was given to Rajah Muthiah Medical College, Chidambaram.
