Terracotta fair begins today

Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: The stage is set for the inauguration of the week-long exclusive terracotta fair – Terracorissa -2007 – at the Exhibition Ground here on Friday by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The first of its kind in Orissa, the State-level fair is being organised the Directorate of Handicrafts with an objective to showcase the best of Orissa’s terracotta artists and provide them a platform for direct marketing, explain officials. The event will have 70 stalls showcasing a wide range of products from 11 districts of the State represented by 40 artisans. Terracotta products of Sonepur, Barapali and Keonjhar that have already gained a global market will be on display. To revive the marginalised terracotta sector that faces threat from steel and plastic products, the government has been implementing a cluster approach of development, says an official of the directorate.
