BERHAMPUR: Schoolchildren matched their mental as well artistic skills at the ‘Best out of Waste’ competition held at the Satyasai Vidyamandir School in the city on Thursday. This special competition was organised by Vasavi Ladies Club as part of their Vasavi week celebrations. Artist K.S.N. Subudhi was the judge at this competition. President of the club, P.Pramila and its secretary P.Vijaya said many participants in this competition came up with ideas of domestic use of waste materials which have never come to the minds of elders. Wide participation
More than 80 participants took part in this competition. The participants had come with the waste materials of their choice to prepare usable products out of them at the spot. The items prepared from waste materials ranged from mini tabla prepared from empty green coconuts. Idols and collages depicting Lord Jagannath seemed to be the most popular theme for use of waste materials by the children. Seeing it, R.Ramesh, a spectator of the gallery of items prepared during the competition said, “At least it showed the omnipresence of the Almighty even in the waste material.” The organisers advised the participants to be careful while handling waste materials as they may lead to contamination and health hazards.
