Committee formed to check illegal placements
NAMAKKAL: The district administration will remove all the unauthorised hoarding in the district within a week, Collector G. Sundaramurthi has said.
Chairing a meeting here on Thursday, the Collector said that a district-level committee has been set up comprising the Superintendent of Police, revenue divisional officers, tahsildars, municipal commissioners, town panchayat executive officers and divisional engineers of Highways and Public Works departments as members for the removal of unauthorised hoarding.
Permission
Mr. Sundaramurthi said that permission should be obtained from the district administration prior to the installation of hoarding.
Applications should be submitted in prescribed form with necessary documents to get permission, he added.
Hoarding should not be installed near historically important places.
Stern action would be taken against those installing hoarding without obtaining proper permission from the administration, he said.
District Revenue Officer G. Govindaraj, Superintendent of Police John Nicholson and senior officials were present at the meeting.
Self-employment
Later, participating at workshop on Vazhnthu Kattuvom project, Mr. Sundaramurthi asked those who underwent vocational training organised under the project, to take up self-employment activities.
The scheme was aimed at improving quality of life of the rural poor.
A number of programmes were being conducted to equip the people with necessary skills under the project, he said.
On Wednesday, the Collector received petitions regarding upgrade, bifurcation and amalgamation of local bodies from the representatives of political parties, voluntary organisations, and general public.
