PUDUCHERRY: The average daily wage limit for exempting employees from payment of employees’ share to the contribution to Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has been increased from Rs.50 to Rs.70 a day with effect from August 1. According to a release from the ESIC Regional Director, this was possible due to the amendment to Rule 52 of ESI (Central) Rules, 1950. Accordingly, all employees, whose wages excluding remuneration for over-time work and was inclusive of Rs.70 per day, were not required to pay employees’ share. But this would not affect the employer’s share of the contribution, it added. — Staff Reporter
