New dam requires Rs.216 crore

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The proposed new dam at Mullaperiyar is expected to cost Rs.216 crore, Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran has said.
Mr. Premachandran told the Assembly in a written reply on Thursday that preliminary studies had been conducted by the Government. The preliminary report and abstract estimate had been prepared.
As per the abstract estimate, construction of the new dam would cost Rs.216 crore. The Government would seek Central assistance on getting the detailed project report. It would have to secure the clearance of the Union Water Resources Ministry, the Environment Ministry, the and Planning Commission.
