BHOPAL: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s three-day National Executive meeting starting here on September 21 acquires special significance keeping in view several State Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha elections which could be held any time. Party general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi made this assertion at a press conference at the BJP headquarters here on Wednesday. He was here to review the preparations for the National Executive meeting to be held in Bhopal after a gap of 11 years. Mr. Naqvi said that in 1996 when the BJP’s National Executive had met here, the country was witnessing important political developments that led to the formation of a BJP-led Government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Centre. “Mr. Vajpayee has been leading the BJP and shall continue to lead the party,” he said, adding that L.K. Advani and Rajnath Singh were both party leaders. Mr. Naqvi said the meeting would provide an opportunity to discuss matters and draw the strategy for the Assembly elections in 11 States. The Parliament elections could also be held any time now, he added. The BJP leader said the Congress was soft towards terrorists. Under the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government, there was rampant corruption, he said, adding that the farmers were also being compelled to commit suicide “due to the anti-farmer policies of the present regime”. Mr. Naqvi said there was no trace of Al-Qaeda in India when New York was targeted by terrorists but due to Congress policies this outfit had now spread its tentacles in India.
