VIZIANAGARAM: Tribals, led by CPI (M) secretary B.V. Raghavulu, took out a massive rally and picketed the Salur Tehsildar office on Thursday demanding a survey of the lands in 26 panchayats in Salur and Pachipenta mandals and also pattas to lands in their possession for decades. CPI (M) leaders -- S. Punyavathi, M. Krishna Murty, N.Y. Naidu -- and others joined them.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Raghavulu, while criticising the Government for its ‘inaction’ on thousands of acres (rough estimates put it at 40,000 acres) of unsurveyed lands in the two mandals, said that tribals were not given pattas for the lands they had been tilling for several decades.
Later, he submitted a memorandum to Tehsildar G. Vijaya Kumar.
