Sonepat: The BSP on Thursday accused the Haryana Police of registering false criminal cases against a Dalit youth who was gunned down in Gohana town last month by three persons, sparking tension in the district. Talking to reporters here, Parkash Bharti, president of the state unit of the BSP, accused the police of “hatching a conspiracy” in the killing Rakesh alias Lara by registering false and baseless criminal cases against him. “The aim of the conspiracy was to crush the voice of the Dalits,” he said. The police were exerting pressure on the victim’s family not to demand the transfer of the Gohana DSP, the BSP leader alleged. ‘Real culprits not arrested’
He said that the arrest of three persons in this connection was “doubtful and the police had utterly failed to arrest the real culprits behind the act”. The police have been engaged in implicating innocent persons in the incidents of violence and arson which broke out in the city following the incident, he alleged. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has been apprised of the incident, Mr. Bharti said, adding she was in touch with the Haryana Government for taking action against the culprits. The BSP supremo has also promised all support to the victim’s family, Mr. Bharti said and demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and a Government job to one of the members of the deceased. Rakesh, belonging to the Valmiki community, was shot dead on August 27 by three men when he along with a friend were going to meet another friend. The incident triggered violence in several parts of the State. PTI
