Congratulations

Congratulations to Team India on beating England and levelling the ODI cricket series. The batsmen played well and the efforts of Robin Uthappa, in particular, clinched the victory. Our team should learn to keep its cool under pressure. That it doesn’t was evident in two avoidable run-outs.

S. Mahesh,

Tiruchi

Sachin Tendulkar played a marvellous innings on Wednesday but it was young Uthappa’s play that made the difference. He should have been declared the man of the match. Hasn’t Sachin won the title umpteen times anyway?

R. Rajasekar,

What the Ganguly-Sachin pair did was to recreate the old times, when it was the most feared right-left opening combination in the world. It rained fours and sixes at the Oval on Wednesday. The little master seemed as though he could do no wrong. The ‘Prince of Calcutta’ strikes the ball for a six more elegantly than anyone I have seen in my short (and, according to my mother, a vastly misspent) life (watching what is in her words an inane game) and he was at his imperious best. India has had a golden summer in the old country despite the “disadvantage” of not having a coach. Regardless of what happens at Lord’s on Saturday, I shall re-live Uthappa smacking that four and pumping his fist in my dreams.

Sanam Latif,

Mangalore
