Madurai: Four goals, including a hat-trick, by Ashok and one by Arputharaj helped Arulanandar College, Karumathur thrash GTN Arts College, Dindigul 5-0 in the ‘C’ zone finals, while a brace each by Rajesh Kannan and Solai Arasu and one by Balaguru helped Sourashtra College trounce Madura College by an identical 5-0 margin in the ‘B’ zone finals of the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate hockey tournament at Madurai on Thursday. In the ‘A’ zone finals, trailing by a goal in the first session, American College rallied to beat MSS Wakfboard College 4-2. Parthiban, Sathyaraj, Sankaralingam and Saranraj scored for American. R. Rajesh and R. Fasi Ahmed scored for MSS WB College. Virudhunagar Hindu Nadar Senthil Kumar Nadar College won the title in the University championship ball badminton tournament with an all-win record in the four-team league at the University ground. Madura College finished runner-up, losing only to VHNSN College. American College finished third with its only win over CPA College, Bodinayackanur. Sathyabama University defeated Jeppiar Engineering College 73-45 to win the A. Krishnasamy Naidu Memorial Rolling Trophy at the State-level basketball tournament here on Thursday. Sathyabama made a brisk start and took a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Jeppiar showed signs of improvement in the second session, but still was down 15 points at the half way mark. Sathyabama cagers continued playing aggressively in the third quarter and secured a 29 point advantage. It was too late for the Jeppiar hoopsters to stage a come back from that point.
