Women’s football club formed

KOZHIKODE: A club exclusively for women’s football is coming up in the city. Women’s Football Club Calicut, founded by a few former footballers from Kozhikode, will be inaugurated by Mayor M. Bhaskaran here on Saturday.

“We decided to form a club so that we could attract more young girls to football and help Kerala contribute to the Indian women’s football teams once again,” said M. Fousiya, secretary, Women’s Football Club Calicut.

“We have already been giving training to girls in a few schools in Kozhikode district,” the former State player added.

An exhibition match between Malappuram Soccer Girls and Women’s Football Club Calicut will be played at the Corporation Stadium on Saturday as part of the opening ceremony. — Principal Correspondent
