Party holds convention to prepare for local body elections
Chitradurga: Development schemes launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have boosted the morale of party workers, and they can now confidently ask people to vote for the party in the elections to urban local bodies, according to district party president G.M. Suresh. He was speaking at the party’s preparatory convention for the elections here on Thursday. He said that as Finance Minister. B.S. Yediyurappa had presented a pro-people Budget with several welfare programmes. “With schemes such as Bhagya Lakshmi, Sandhya Suraksha and bicycles for high school students from poor families, Mr. Yediyurappa formulated a Budget that focussed on the common man,” Mr. Suresh said. National security
State BJP general secretary Shobha Karandlaje, MLC, accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre with compromising on national security. The previous BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government had enacted stringent laws, such as the Prevention of Terrorism Act to contain terrorism. But the UPA Government abolished the Act resulting in an increase in terrorist activities within the country. Therefore, Ms. Karandlaje said, people should bring the BJP back into power, not only for all-round development but also to safeguard national interests. She urged party workers to ensure that the welfare schemes launched by the State Government reached the intended beneficiaries. City unit president M. Mohan and State president of the Scheduled Tribe Morcha Siddaraj were present on the occasion.
