NELLORE / ONGOLE: Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat has said that the Left parties will continue their ‘Bhoo Poratam’ (land agitation) till its objectives are achieved. Taking exception to Government’s decision to appoint D. Sambasiva Rao as Special Commissioner in the office of Chief Commissioner Land Administration (CCLA) to oversee implementation of Koneru Ranga Rao land committee’s recommendations, the CPI (M) General Secretary demanded that the Government should appoint an independent commission with quasi judicial powers to deal with land issues as demanded by Left parties. Mr. Karat, who visited several places both in Nellore and Prakasham districts as part of his five-day jata, which was set off from Chennai on September 4, along the east coast protesting against India’s multilateral naval exe rcise with the United States in the Bay of Bengal, told reporters on Thursday that Left parties would intensify their land struggle till the Government conceded their demands. The Governments, both at the Centre as well as at the State, should decide whether they want to implement a Common Minimum Programme that promotes US president George. W. Bush’s agenda or the CMP which can alleviate problems of the common man. Meanwhile, Left parties will sensitise people through the ongoing jatas as to how the Centre’s pro-American policies will jeopardise the national sovereignty. Recalling his association with senior Communist leader Puchalapalli Su ndaraiah, the CPI (M) General Secretary at a public meeting held at Nellore said that he was extremely happy to be in the land of Comrade Sundaraiah, who was a guide, teacher and mentor. “Comrade Sundariah joined the freedom struggle when he was a student and had consistently fought against the American imperialism.” CPI State Secretary K. Narayana and several other senior Left party leaders were also present.
